Update Alerts

Modified on Wed, 13 Nov, 2024 at 12:01 PM

Compass now alerts people when an update is available to them.

An 'update' is a feature change or improvement.

Users see on their Home Screen that updates are available, along with the name. It looks like this:

You'll see it mentions "Recent changes include" and then lists each of the update names. These will normally have sensible names like 'Showing Company Name in Calendar by Default'.

Users can either dismiss these  (dont show again) which will mark all current alerts as having been read. The alert will reappear when new features are announced.

If users click 'Learn About The Updates' it will take them to a video player, which looks like this, showing a playlist of videos, one per feature.

This shows each video, and once the user clicks play, it moves through each one by one.

Each feature is its own little video, and there may be 1-n of them.

A few key notes
1) Feature Flags.. if a feature is only available to certain franchisees, only those will see the video/alert for that specific item
2) Alerts are per user.. i.e. if someone in Corpus views the new feature video, it doesn't dismiss it for all users
3) We don't (currently) handle permission-views.. i.e. if a tech doesn't have permission to see the calendar, the system doesn't yet hide updates that mention the calendar.
4) Every video has a related KB article so that we can refer people to that if they have more questions.
