How to restore FILES using Datto

Modified on Wed, 13 Nov, 2024 at 9:38 AM

Suppose you forgot to turn on file versioning, and overwrote data you either didn't think was important or assumed was also somewhere else. Now your supervisor is asking for the previous year's numbers and you start to get nervous knowing you overwrote important data. Do not fear! Backups are here! And there! Not everywhere though, that isn't very secure.

1. Log into the Datto appliance portal. Then click on the restore tab. Datto is accessed with this extremely readable url: https://rqcbx323kj.dattolocal.net/home

2. Pick the Server containing the changed file, and choose the "File Restore" recover type. Pick a date you think may have the data you want in the dropdown, then click restore.

3. On the new page click "Mount" under the recover point description. Once mount is complete, a link to a fileshare will be created. Copy this to clipboard

4. Paste the link into a File Explorer address bar and press enter. You should see the files appear in just a moment

4a. typing in the address bar

4b. C and D drive show in main folder

5. Drag and drop the file (or copy it however) and check that it contains the data you need. If so, great! If not, try a new date!

6. Back on the Datto webpage, click "unmount" to finish. If it says there are existing connections, ensure your file has completely copied, then click "Force"

7. Rejoice, for data hath returned
